for your weekend. driver relieved quick police work that lead to an arrest in a flee way shooting that stopped traffic. another much needed storm employees through the bay area. good evening i am gasia mikaelian. >> the heavy rain is leaving headaches in its wake. drivers had to deal with flooding issues including this road in the north bay. in san leandro today, a roof gave way from what firefighters believe was weight of water. you can see the hole, 20 by 20 feet. the damaged warehouse is used by a company that stores and reuses plastic bags. downpours have continued. at one point you could barely see through the rain.

mark is now in our weather sent we are conditions tonight and a look at the rain totals mark. that's right. the rainfall totals adding up. first some developing weather news with a tornado warning just expired to the north of davis. this is the radar loop two hours ago. you can see what happens, look what happens moving around davis and woodland moving to the north and east, speed of 25 miles an hour. over the past few minutes that warning has expired still a severe thunderstorm for this part of the state. back closer to home scattered rain showers, closer inspection of the radar across a good portion of the bay area. scattered downpours nothing too extreme but unsettled weather pattern will stick around for tonight into tomorrow morning. here is the south bay perspective. clouds and a few showers around los gatos. rainfall numbers going up. san jose, .94 and morgan hill

approaching 2 inches. still tracking the chance of a few showers this weekend chef. >> things were rough for drivers in north bay as katie shows us with two forces combined at times the water was more than a foot high in some areas. >> reporter: around 10:30 a.m. in mill valley a high tide combined with heavy rains flooded shore line highway at 101. cal trans rerouted traffic for several hours, but some drivers plowed through any way. others simply parked in flooded lots. >> pumping it out. this is a temporary pump they threw in. >> reporter: businesses also took a soaking like toy world along redwood highway. >> how do you steal someone's is your honour pump. >> reporter: after thieves swiped her defense earlier this week. >> slopes downward. >> reporter: she will battle the remainder of this rain

maker with a new is your honour pump. he receives two even three times for calls for service during this time. sump pumps not working, everything backs up. >> reporter: within a 24 hour period the north bay received more than an inch of rain which inundated highway 1 and more than a foot of water would not stop drivers west of petaluma who chose to forge even more flooding across highway 1. i spoke with a roofing company today and they tell me that on rainy days like this one they can receive 15 to 20 calls for emergency repairs. and each of those visits costs $950. in mill valley, ktvu channel 2 news. in south bay flooding caused problems for drivers the driver of this one car got stuck on santa clara street near stockton avenue in san jose where a large pool of water collected on the roadway.

cell phone video showing that driver in waist deep attar. minutes late -- water. minutes later a white car travelling the opposite direction got stuck. that section of road was temporarily closed. san jose flooding, near taylor street, prompting closure. cal trans officials say they discovered the pump that used to drain water, wasn't working. they blame predawn thieves who stole copper wiring. workers had to bring in this mobile pump because thieves also knocked out a back up pump. stormy weather lead to hundreds of hour outages. the down force hit last night and this morning there was a lull before it picked up strength this afternoon. heavy rain, many people worried about flooding especially those along the river. again mark will be back shortly with a full forecast and view more video of today's storm clicking on the link at the top of our home

page. new developments in the freeway shooting that shut down yesterday evenings commute. chopper 2 over the scene of that shooting, in castro valley. chp stopped traffic to comb for evidence. tell us more about the arrests made today and a very close call for one nearby resident. >> reporter: not only were bullets flying on the freeway but one managed to land in the wall of a nearby apartment, the resident that lives there tells us she is shocked this happened but glad arrests have been made. >> very very lucky, where it decided to land. >> reporter: it blew through her sliding glass door embedding in her apartment wall. >> crazy it was at random all the way from the freeway. >> reporter: she lives on the hill above the freeway and far enough away she couldn't see it. the bullet was one of several fired from a silver sedan yesterday, along interstate 580. seven others struck the svu.

>> it seemed these guys were laughing they had done it before. >> reporter: news of an arrest, it came in as a tip. a car fitting the description parked in front of a cans tree valley home. chp -- castro valley home. chp moved in arresting five men. two weapons were confirmed stolen handguns. >> i didn't think they were going to find them truthfully because once especially during commute hours you just blend in with all the other cars. >> reporter: traffic was shut down yesterday in the middle of the rush hour commute, investigators were able to recover a shell casing from the side of the highway. they also took this, a bullet and a chunk of wall from lauren's apartment. >> hopefully, it will help seal the deal for them. >> reporter: as for why the

suspect was targeted he can only speculate, perhaps the people in the car were upset when he compassed them on the highway. live -- when he passed them on the highway. police in fairfield, investigators arrested four men ranging in age from 19 to 24 years old. one suspect is a payrollee and two are documented gang members they don't believe he was the intended target. one of those red safeway club cards lead police to a suspected bank robber. this was taken in january during a robbery at a chase bank in mill bright the robber is a 62-year-old accused of holding up the bank in burlingame on valentines day. surveillance photos that showed him using a club card taken

just before the second robbery helped them id jones. he is due back in court may 13th. in just over a month it will cost us all to cross the golden gate bridge. today the bridge district voted to raise the toll by $2 over the course of next 4 years they need the money to close the deficit. starting in april the toll jumps to $7 then july 2015 it goes up 25¢s, it increases by a quarter, every year until 2018 and finally $8 in 2018. drivers with fast track the $1 discount will remain in effect. president obama warned russia about sending military into ukraine. russian transport planes and helicopters were seen landing in eastern ukraine what appears to be a russian invasion and

president obama's response. >> reporter: president obama issued a strong warning to russia not to intervene in ukraine. >> the u.s. will stand with the international community in affirming there will be costs for any military intervention in ukraine. >> reporter: it was in response to reports russian armored personnel carriers and armed gun men in military uniform were seen. u.s. officials sea evidence of russian air and sea movements into and out of the region. >> any violation of ukraine's sovereignty would be deeply destabilizing which is not in the interest of ukraine, russia or europe. >> reporter: secretary of state john kerri raised the issue with his russian counter part earlier friday. >> the question is whether or not what is happening now might be crossing a line in any way. >> reporter: meanwhile in russia, the ousted ukrainian president emerged for the first time since last week. he held a press conference in

the man exposed to the chemical substance is going to be okay. five current san francisco police officers facing federal criminal charges made their first court appearance today. as david stevenson reports their attorneys hinted at their possible defense arguments if this case goes to trial. >> reporter: lead by the head of the san francisco police officers association, the officers left the federal courthouse this morning, two of six current and former officers indited on grand jury charges. >> they are all hard working officers, dedicated to this department and citizens of this city. >> reporter: the offshoot of a 2011 investigation into a series of raids at residential hotels, by plain closed officers. theft and extortion to drug distribution. >> they were out there, doing very very serious work, and dealing with some people that have no regard for the law.

>> reporter: defense attorney id the federal inditements will have a chilling effect on officers doing similar work. informants who aided the investigation are not reliable witnesses. >> one of those informants attempted to extort an officer. >> from what he tells me he provided actual evidence in the form of fingerprints and other types of hard evidence that was given to the federal investigators. >> reporter: all but one defendant entered not guilty plea the the sixth is waiting for a new attorney first. all three are held on bond and suspended without pay. in milpitas a big drug investigation lead police to a huge marijuana grow. we have a picture, just a portion of what officers discovered wednesday. in all they found more than 2,000 marijuana plants, valued

at more than $2 million, along with grow lights and ventilation equipment. they also found $15,000 in cash. 24-year-old bao khao and his brother were indited on several counts. police are looking for witnesses, the bus was turning on civic drive in heavy rain the victim, hit leg and head injuries. bus district officials say the driver has had six minor infractions since he came to work for them in 2001. >> we have many drivers that have perfect records but he has a couple minor mishaps never any significant accident prior today and has been a good employee for us for 13 plus years. the driver is on paid leave while police investigate. actor phillip seymour hoffman died of a toxic mix of

drugs, heroine, cocaine, amphetamines and psycho active drugs. he was found dead february 2nd with a needle in his arm his death ruled an accident. last year he went for treatment for heroine addiction. health officials say two more people have been diagnosed with measles the new cases here involve two men who are relatives of a uc berkeley student diagnosed with measles earlier this month. doctors believe the student contracted the highly contagious disease on a recent trip to the philippines. it raised concerns because the student road bart regularly. the most recent patients were under voluntary quarantine and no others appear exposed. the worst may be over but flu season isn't done yet. state health officials report 24 more flu related deaths this week. 19 additional deaths are still

being investigated. no new flu deaths reported in the bay area, 49 deaths so far this season. santa clara leads the region with most deaths with 15 in that county. a warning going out to verizon customers about a fraud. it works like this the scammers use what appears to be a legitimate verizon technical support number to trick customers into giving up personal information users are told they have received $54 directed to a bogus website, verizon then instructed to enter personal information but don't do it. it is a scam. collapse of a bit coin exchange is rocking the world of virtual and unregulated currency. the chief executive said 850,000 bit coins were lost and estimated their current worth at $425 million it is not clear how they vanished they could have been stolen or voided one bit coin investor was angry.

clouds but not much in the way of shower coverage. move the maps closer to the southern half of the region. scattered rain showers outside of los gatos right now. in terms of the forecast coming up, rainfall totals over the past few days we will get to that forecast in a little bit. it has been a very productive month. numbers adding up. earlier this week we are expecting rainfall, 1 to 4 inches. approaching 5 inches. san jose 1.65, oakland 1.41 we are adding to the totals. basically for tonight into tomorrow morning. for to be the scattered showers -- for tonight, scattered showers. clouds out there, i showed you on the radar. not a lot of activity. this weekend a sun cloud mix.
